Taiwan Travel Diary Walk-Through

I went to Taiwan back in June. This is my second solo trip to Taiwan in a row, meaning I was not accompanied by any other family, even though once I land, I am surrounded by family.

By far the most important thing about this trip is that I’m finally getting to know Taiwan on my own terms. I have family obligations still, but I’m making it a priority to know Taiwan on cultural terms. Fortunately, I have multiple cousins who share these interests, and that’s the way I started off the trip in Taipei, with three days of cultural institutions and good meals.

(I had visions for this cover that didn’t quite execute. These are the three cities I was in — Taipei, Kaohsiung, Douliu — and their respective rivers. Also excuse filthy nails; I was gardening earlier today.)

We started with a walk through the Chiang Kai Shek memorial, about 7 in the morning. It was a great time to visit; locals were out and exercising, but the tourists weren’t out yet. Then we went to lunch and then had a visit to the national historical society and walked through Taipei’s botanical garden. It was a packed full day, which was good, because I didn’t sleep much on the trip over and I really had to make it until 8PM that night before I would let myself sleep.

The first thing I drew was a representation of Lee Zai-Chin’s sculpture, Endless Love.
